Athens Community Food Pantry receives donation

The National Bank of Coxsackie (“NBC”) presented the Athens Community Food Pantry with a $10,000 donation to aid in their mission to respond to the food needs in their local community. The funds were secured through the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York Small Business Recovery Grant Program. NBC is a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and applied for the funds made available through this special program.

“We are delighted to be able to offer support to the Athens Community Food Pantry and their efforts” John Balli, NBC Chief Executive Officer said.  “They play an important role in our local community and we hope this donation will allow them to continue to make that vital impact.”

The Athens Community Food Pantry was started as an outreach program in the 1960s. After closing for a year between 2006 and 2007, with the help of countless volunteers, the food pantry was re-opened and became a member of the Regional Northeast Food Bank in 2008. The pantry is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, and deliver to the senior citizens in the community on Fridays.

“The Athens Community Food Pantry is truly honored to be the recipient of this very generous grant from the National Bank of Coxsackie's leadership.” Said Maggie Apgar, Vice President of the Athens Community Food Pantry. “These funds will be used to purchase food and non-food items from the Regional Food Bank and local stores. It continues to be our mission to provide food and supplies to households in our community struggling to have enough food. We are grateful for your belief and support of our mission.”
